ACHIEVEMENTS;
Newbury Park High School:
Track & Field: Denise was a four-year varsity letter winner in track. She holds school records in the 1600 (4:44.1) and 3200 (10:15.9), and is on the top ten list in the 800, 1600, 3200 and the 4×400 relay.
She was Marmonte League Champion in the 880 and mile in 1979; the 2-mile, the mile and the 880 in 1980; the 2-mile, the mile and the 880 in 1981, and 3200, 1600 and 800 in 1982, She held the Ventura County 800 record from 1982 until 2007.
In CIF competition, she placed 6th in the 880 1979; 6th in the 3200 in 1980, 1 st in the 1600 and 3rd in the 3200 in 1981, and in 1982 was the CIF champion in the 1600.
In 1982 Denise placed 2nd in the State meet in both the 3200 and the 1600.
Cross-Country: Denise won four varsity letters in Cross-Country. She was the Marmonte League Champion in 1979, 1980 and 1981, and was Ventura County Runner of the year in 1979, 1980, 1981. In 1981 she finished in 2nd place at the CIF finals. She was chosen First Team Ail Western United States Team, and placed in the Kinney Western Regional to qualify for the National meet in Florida.
UCLA TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY:
3-year Varsity letter winner in Cross Country and Track & Field
Qualified for NCAA Championships in Cross Country in 1986, where her team placed 2th, In the Pac 10 Championships, she ran a personal best in the 800 of 2:12.10.
US OLYMPIC TRIALS:
Denise ran a personal best 1600 (4:18.99) at the 1988 Olympic Trials in Indianapolis.
COMMUNITY;
Denise coached the girls’ track team at her alma mater, Newbury Park High School in 1988 and 1989.
She taught at Meadow Oaks Elementary School from 1990 to 1997.
She began coaching the Moorpark Striders Youth Track Team in 1997 and continues to do so at the present.
Denise and her husband Rob, who is Athletic Director at Moorpark High School, live in Moorpark with their children, James, Christian, Hannah and Sarah.
