Gary Robert Tuttle

Track All American Runner

Born in Ventura, California, October 12, 1947. Attended Will Rogers, Cabrillo Junior High and graduated from Buena High School in 1965.

1965- C.I.F. finalist – high school 2 mile

1965-69 – Five time N.C.A.A. Track All-American while attending Humboldt State College

1968-69 – Two time N.C.A.A. 3000 meter steeple-chase champion while attending Humboldt State.

1970-85 – Represented the U.S.A. in 22 countries.

1970-85 – Won 14 American Road Racing Championships

1972-84 – Qualified for Olympic Trials 6 times.

1975, 76, 77, 78, 79, 81 – Selected by California Track and Running News as “California Road Runner of the Year.”

1976 – 7th place in the World Cross-Country championships held In Wales, England.

1977 – Broke American record for 10 miles (48:09); 20K (59:51); one hour (12 miles, 811 yds)

1984 – National Age Group Record 10,000 meter, 36 years, 28:26

1985 – Second place finisher of the Boston Marathon

1988 – Appointed California Sponsor and director, long distance running for Special Olympics.

In Ventura County, has sponsored and directed and volunteered at several hundred races providing 1000’s of county runners the opportunity to participate in the sport.
