Born January 7, 1921 in Morgan Hill, California

Lettered in track at Oxnard High School in triple jump and long jump

Established league record as a junior in the triple jump

Attended Ventura College and UCLA before entering military during World War Il with the Army Air Corps

Upon discharge in 1946, he established a 42 year relationship with the Oxnard Press Courier

Hal was the sports editor for forty years during which time he gained the respect of the many county coaches for his positive and accurate reporting

Recipient of numerous awards over the years, including awards from both the Oxnard Elks and the Knights of Columbus in appreciation of outstanding news coverage and services rendered in the interest of sports

Received a special recognition award from the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame in 1988
