CAREER:
OXNARD HIGH SCHOOL:
Tuck Mason coached at Oxnard High School from 1965 to 1976. He was Assistant JV Football coach in 1966, becoming Co-Head Freshman Coach in 1967-68.
He Started as Assistant Track & Field Coach in 1965, becoming Head Coach in 1968. His teams won Channel League Championship in Cross Country in 1968, Marmonte League Cross Country in 1971, and Marmonte League Track & Field Championships in 1970 and 1971.
VENTURA COLLEGE:
In 1976, Coach Mason began a long and illustrious career at Ventura College. From 1976 through 1998 he was Head Men’s Track & Field and Cross Country Coach, and Head Women’s Cross Country Coach. In 1980 he also became Head Women’s Track & Field Coach.
His teams won 15 WSC Championships in Men & Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country.; 3 Southern California Women’s Cross Country Championships, a State Women’s Cross Country Championship, A Men’s Southern California Cross Country Championship, and had both a First and a Second place finish in the Men’s State Meet.
He Coached seven individual State Champions in Track & Field, and was eight times WSC Coach of the Year.
HONORS:
1990-1993 – State President of the Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association of California Community College Commission on Athletics.
1993 – Assistant Coach of the West team at the Olympic Festival in San Antonio, TX.
1996 – Official for the USA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
1996 – Olympic Hurdle Development Atlanta Olympic Trials.
1999-2003 – Co-Director of the National Community College Track & Field Championships at the Olympic Training site in Chula Vista, CA.
COMMUNITY:
Mr. Mason has been active in the Ventura County Community District Retiree’s Association and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Posse.
He has three grown children, Jodi, Jeff and Michelle.
He and his wife, Judy, live in Ventura, and enjoy traveling.
