Competed two years on tennis team at St. Catherine’s Academy in Ventura, California. Won two private school state championships, 1955 and 1956. Ojai Tournament finalist, 1956. Southern California Boys Doubles Champion, 1956.

Competed three years varsity tennis at Ventura High School, Ventura, California. Ranked as number one player, sophomore, junior, and senior years. Ojai Interscholastic Finalist, 1958. Ojai Interscholastic Champion, 1959. National Public Parks Doubles Champion (Noel Brown, partner), 1958. U.S.T.A. National Hard Court Finalist, Singles, 1959. Southern California Sportsman Award Winner, 1959. National Ranking: #1 Singles, #2 Doubles (Marty Riesser, partner)

Competed three years varsity tennis at the University of Southern California. Named Team Captain, 1963; NCAA All-American, First Team, 1961 and 1962; NCAA Doubles Champion (Rafael Osuna, partner), 1961 and 1962; NCAA Doubles Finalist (Bill Bond, partner), 1963; U.S. Davis Cup squad, 1961 and 1962
